How the calculator works
- Catering is guests × per-head rate for each function. Mehndi is counted at about 60% of the guests, Nikah at 40% and Dholki at 30%, because fewer people usually attend.
- A contingency buffer is kept aside first — 10% is sensible, more for outdoor winter functions.
- The rest is split across venue and décor, bridal wear and jewellery, photography, makeup, groom wear, cards and transport, and dhol and rasams.
Per-guest cost is the number to watch
Divide your total by your guest count. If one extra family of five adds a noticeable amount once food, seats and favours are counted, trimming the list is often the easiest saving.
Track the real numbers next
Estimates help you decide; payments tell the truth. In the Zelmora planner, only money you have actually paid on confirmed bookings counts as spent, deposits count as partial payments, and booked-but-unpaid balances show separately as committed.
Frequently asked questions
Should the contingency come out of the budget?
Yes. Keeping 5–15% aside means a last-minute generator, extra guests or overtime does not push you over.
